Lion Tracks Ministries and others claim that an Italian peasant killed a small dragon in 1572 A.D.

There is no scientific evidence to support this claim. No remains of the creature exists
The original author of this report was a prolific writer of scientific texts. He is most famous for his writings on the evidences for the unicorn. Since we know the unicorn is fictional, how can we trust him concerning this report.
If such an event occurred, it can probably be explained as a lizard or some other reptile.
