Argument:
If a live plesiosaur were found, it would prove that dinosaurs still exist
Source: Inferred from multiple sources
Response:
In the classification system, dinosaurs and plesiosaurs are in the Subclass Ornithodira. The next level down is the Order. Dinosaurs are in the Superorder Dinosauria, and plesiosaurs are in the Superorder Sauropterygia. Thus, a plesiosaur is not a dinosaur, and finding one would not prove dinosaurs still exist. It would only prove that plesiosaurs did not go extinct millions of years ago
Finding a live plesiosaur would lead young earth creationists to make the "living fossil" claim. For more on this fallacy, see Living Fossils
