Argument:
Henry Morris claims that radiometric dating falsely assumes that the initial conditions of the rock at its formation are known, and it is assumed that none of the daughter elements are in the sample at formation.
Source: Morris,
Henry M., 1974. Scientific Creationism, p. 139.
Response:
Isochron methods do not assume that the initial concentrations are known
For some radiometric methods, the assumed initial conditions are reasonable
K-Ar dating assumes there is no argon in the initial sample at formation. This is because it is an inert gas, and would be excluded from the original crystal formation
The concordia method uses lead, which is also not present in mineral formation
Radiocarbon dating is based on the abundance of C-14 in the atmosphere, which can be known
Fission-track dating works because newly formed minerals do not have fission tracks
