Argument:
Hovind claims that a freshly killed seal was carbon dated at 1300 years old
Source: Hovind,
Kent, n.d. Doesn't carbon dating or potassium argon dating prove the Earth
is millions of years old? drdino.com/QandA/index.jsp?varFolder=CreationEvolution&varPage=CarbonPotassiumargondating.jsp
Response:
Both samples come from instances where "dead carbon" has been incorporated by the seal. This is known as the "reservoir effect." In essence, Antarctica sea water has significantly lower carbon-14 content than the rest of the worlds oceans. Old carbon dioxide is present within deep ocean water
Scientists know about this problem, and understand the limitations of testing. These limitations affect the samples tested, and not the carbon-dating process. There is nothing wrong with the process
