Argument:
The geologic record contains many large shale formations. These formations cannot be explained by uniformitarianism, as large depositional systems for shale are not evident today. The uniformitarian, slow-deposition model, cannot explain them.

The ocean floors where shale is deposited covers vast areas
A shale from a single flood event, such as Noah's Flood, would give the same age, from top to bottom. Ancient shale formations vary greatly in age, showing that they were deposited over a long period of time
A single flood event, such as Noah's Flood, would deposit a single shale layer. The geologic record contains shale interbedded with sandstone many times, indicating a constantly advancing and retreating shoreline. This is inconsistent with a single Flood theory
