G342:  High Pressures in Oil Fields Would Have Bled Off if the Earth Were Old

Argument: 

Kent Hovind has made the claim that the high pressures found in oil and gas wells prove a young earth.  He states that if the earth were old, the pressures would have bled off by now

Response: 

 

  1. Kent assumes the earth is young and leaky.  If true, the pressures we see would never have built up in the first place

  2. The high pressures of the reservoirs show that the rocks are impermeable, and able to withstand the pressures over long periods of time.

  3. The existence of pressure has nothing to do with the age of the rocks or the oil.  Oil which is millions of years old could have just migrated into the reservoir where it is found
