G3621:  Varves Can Form in Less than a Year

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:

A varve is a fine layer of silt that shows seasonal differences.  These individual varves can form in less than one year, and can represent a single storm event.

Response:

  1. Non-annual fine grained layers are recognizably different from varves.

  2. Even if it represents single storm events, there is one formation that contains twenty million varves.  Even at a rate of one per day, that is still more than 50,000 years worth of varves, which is much too long for the 6,000 to 10,000 year old young earth theory

  3. The Lake Suigetsu varve record is 45,000 years, and it is consistent with other dating techniques, such as carbon dating and the tree ring record
