Argument:
The average depth of topsoil is eight inches. Since it only takes 300 to 1,000 years to build an inch of topsoil, the earth must be less than 8,000 years old

This argument does not account for erosion. As topsoil is built up, it is also destroyed and carried away
Different soils require different times to build up. Some take as much as 50,000 to a million years or more
