Argument:
In 1883, a Turkish commission surveying Mount Ararat for possible avalanche conditions fount part of the ark sticking out of a glacier some 20 to 30 feet, according to the British newspaper Prophetic Messenger
Source: Tim LaHaye and John Morris, The Ark on Ararat, 1976. pp. 56-58
Response:
The report claims the expedition went through dense forest and wading waist-deep through a stream. This is contrary to other expeditions to Ararat, which do not report any forests or streams
The wood was recognized as gopher wood, despite nobody ever having seen gopher wood before, and despite the fact the wood was painted
The original news release quoted by the British newspaper has never been found
Given the fictional conditions (deep forests, streams, easily identified gopher wood), the work is probably a work of fiction
