N321:  Juveniles of large animals were taken aboard the ark

Edited by Greg Neyman

Argument:

In order to fit all the animals on the ark, some young earth creationists propose that the animals were juveniles

Source:  Woodmorappe, John, 1996. Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study, ICR, Santee, CA, p. 13

Response:

  1. Juvenile animals would have increased needs, stretching Noah and his family even further in caring for them (i.e. a baby is harder to care for than an adult)

  2. Even with juvenile animals, the ark is still overcrowded

  3. Noah was instructed to take "the male and its mate".  This implies sexual maturity, not juveniles

  4. With the old earth creationism model for a local flood, Noah would only have to take animals which mankind depended on, and lived in the local area of the flood.  The ark could have contained this smaller number of animals
