N4332:  Fossils are sorted hydrologically

Argument: 

The order of the fossil record during Noah's Flood can best be explained by hydrological sorting.  Fossils of the same size will be sorted together.  Heavier, or more streamlined fossil shapes, will be found at lower levels

Response: 

 

  1. This is contrary to the actual fossil record.  Less dense animals such as ammonites are found only in deep strata.  Turtles which are dense are not found in lower levels, but in middle and upper levels.  Small brachiopods are found mostly in lower levels

  2. Most fossil-bearing rock layers contain a mixture of sizes and shapes

  3. If this were true, then the rock layers themselves would be sorted by size, but they are not.  Course sediments are routinely found above fine sediments.  Also, large fossils are found within fine sediments

  4. Old earth creationism does not have to resort to wild guesses about how the fossil record was produced, since we accept the fossil record as is
