Kent Hovind is the founder of the young earth ministry known as Creation Science Evangelism, based in Pensacola, Florida. Under the auspices of CSE, Hovind and his son, Eric, conducted meetings within local churches. Hovind also attempted to operate a dinosaur-themed park for young children, known as Dinosaur Adventure Land. This has since been shut down by the government. With Hovind now serving a 10-year prison term for tax evasion, his son Eric is carrying on the ministry without him. Please pray for Hovind and his family during this difficult time.
Hovind is a self-proclaimed Cryptozoologist, and he has gathered much information on creatures such as the Loch Ness Monster and Lake Champlain monster.
Hovind's influence on the creation science debate is limited mostly to fundamentalist Baptist churches. He is not regarded as credible by other young earth creationist organizations, such as Answers in Genesis. Many of the arguments he uses are on the Answers in Genesis list of arguments that creationists should not use. His use of ridiculous claims and wacky quotes makes him a frequent target for anti-creationists, and a frequent embarrassment for fellow young earth creationists. For a full biography of Hovind, see Kent Hovind.
A few of Hovind's conspiracy theory claims...
the government purposely blew up the World Trade Centers on 9/11
The bombing of the Oklahoma Federal Building in 1995 was also planned by our government
The 1969 moon landings never occurred, and were filmed in the CBS studios.
Airplane contrails, the vapor you see created by aircraft at high altitude, are actually chemicals being spewed into the atmosphere by our government for some unknown purpose
Our wars (Civil, WW1, WW2, Korean, Vietnam, etc) were all planned in advance by our government
AIDS was developed in a Maryland laboratory. Many other diseases, such as West Nile Fever, Gulf war syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, Wegener's disease, Parkinson's disease, Crohn's colitis, Type I diabetes, and collagen-vascular diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer's, were developed as "a joint effort by the money masters and governments of the world under the guise of biowarfare research."
For more, check out his conspiracy quotes. Several of his claims are quite amusing. For instance,
The Greek word translated "mark" literally
means "etching." Computer microchips have information etched into silicon.
Microchips may play an important part in the mark of the beast. One example of
technology is the UPC, or bar code. IBM developed the bar code in 1972. The
black and white lines stand for numbers and letters in binary code. By the way,
the two skinny lines at the beginning, middle, and end of every barcode are the
same as "6" in binary code: 666. Under some bar codes you may see an F or H
printed sideways, which may stand for forehead and hand. As far as financial
transactions, four people have called me from Arkansas and Missouri to report
seeing customers at the grocery store pay for purchases by scanning their
hand.

Actually, the two skinny lines at the beginning, middle, and end are called "guard bars", and do not represent numbers at all. They merely separate the two groups of six digits. A barcode number consists of a seven-bit sequence. The number 6 is actually represented by the code 1111010, which shows up like this:
As you can see, a six is not "two skinny lines." In the examples posted on conspiracy theorist websites, there is no indication that the F and H are part of the barcode. A barcode reader would not read the letters anyway. Concerning people observed paying for items by scanning their hand, we have all seen commercials for fast-pay cards, which are small and attached to key rings. Some are small key-like microchips that you place next to a reader. It may appear that the hand is scannned when it is moved over the reader.
