Review by Greg Neyman
On 18 January 2006 Answers in Genesis daily feature was basically an advertisement to get people to read TJ, the Technical Journal.1 This journal is produced now by Creation Ministries International (formerly Answers in Genesis-International), and is no longer promoted by Answers in Genesis-USA. The journal's name has also been changed to Journal of Creation.
TJ has long been heralded by young earth creation scientists. It was created to provide a "peer-reviewed" journal for creationists. While the articles are peer reviewed, the peers are all young earth creationists, and not scientists in the true sense of the word (see Creation Scientist?).
This short advertisement says that increasingly, people are seeing the need to be educated on the issues. The problem is...none of the young earth conclusions are accepted, nor respected, in the scientific community. While TJ may have an occasional article that may benefit old earth progressive creationists (who don't accept evolution), overall, the journal's false research and half-truths make it an unwieldy companion for true science.
Readers who accept TJ are already young earth believers, and this is the target audience. As AiG points out, more and more average people...fathers, mothers, pastors, Sunday school teachers, and others, are turning to TJ. These people are already wrapped up within what I call the "Young Earth Culture." They willingly accept as truth anything coming from authoritative figures on creation science (such as Answers in Genesis), and they have no need to further check out the validity of the claims. This is young earth ministries "bread and butter," people who blindly accept their words.
I applaud these Christians for wanting to learn more about creation, but I encourage them to be open to other ideas, and investigate them without any young earth bias. Only then will they be able to see through the smoke and mirrors of young earth creation science, and finally they will be able to see the truth. You can be a Christian, believe in an inerrant, literal Genesis, and believe in an old earth.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth. Are you a Christian who believes in young earth creationism? Now that we have shown the many difficulties of the young earth creation science model in this and many other articles, how does this impact your Christian life? If you are a young earth creationism believer, click here.
