Creation Crisis in Christian Colleges

The Answers in Genesis Daily Feature on 31 January 2006 examines what Answers in Genesis views as a crisis among Christian colleges.1 The crisis is that colleges are going away from the teaching of young earth creationism. Only five colleges present degrees in Biology from a young earth perspective, and none do so for a geology degree.
The statistics quoted by AiG show that 44-47 percent of the population believe the earth is young, yet more than 90 percent (AiG estimate) of college professors at Christian colleges do not. Therein lies the answer. The college professors are educated, and understand creation, whereas the general public receives their age of the earth education from such publicity mills as AiG, ICR, and others.
The problem is not college professors, but organizations such as AiG. Misinformation, half-truths, and publicity campaigns (seminars) which preach a young earth are accepted by the general public. The words of these so-called experts are taken at face value by most.
I don't have the numbers on how many Christians are old earth believers, but the AiG story gives us a hint. Ninety percent of Christian professors are old earth. They tell examples of Christians who entered college as young earth creationists, but who are now theistic evolutionists. (interestingly, they were "creationists", implying that theistic evolutionists are not creationists. However, a theistic evolutionist is also a creationist).
They mention a survey at Wheaton, where 47 percent enter school as young earth, but only 27 percent are now young earth (when the survey ended). Clearly, old earth creationism is gaining ground. It is only a matter of time before young earth creationism will be just like geocentrism...a thing of the past.
In short, there is no crisis at Christian colleges. More and more students are coming to a full knowledge of the truth of God's creation.
