AiG Goes Worldwide: A Sign of Weakening of Young Earth Creationism

Recently, young earth creation science ministry Answers in Genesis announced that their United States division would be going worldwide, through the publication of numerous AiG materials into many different languages.¹ This developed when a friend of AiG presented them with an offer to translate and print their materials.

While I applaud their efforts to reach people with the Gospel, it occurred to me that this is a sign that their influence in our society in the western world is weakening. As old earth creationism makes inroads into churches in the west, young earth creation science is retreating, and being shown the door in many of our churches. Believers today are realizing that you can be a Christian, and believe that the earth is old. Because the scientific data presents irrefutable evidence for an old earth, Christians who adapt this in their evangelism stand a much better chance of reaching the lost with the Gospel. If there is a conflict between the Gospel message and science, as most of the lost people of our world see, this conflict is a great stumbling block to them.

I see this as an indication of God's leading (as AiG does). The title for the page says "Walking through God's open door." I believe God has directed them in this direction, as they are suited to reap a harvest of people in the third world, where creation science is not an issue. In the same way, God has positioned old earth creationism in the educated, western world, to take over the role of evangelism here, where young earth creation science is seen as contrary to the hard facts of science.

I wish AiG success as they pursue this goal. In the long run, however, it will present further problems for old earth creationism. Eventually, we will have to confront young earth creation science in these other languages of the world. However, this does not present a problem for God...it will only delay the inevitable...that young earth creation science will one day be like geocentrism, a belief of the past.
