Creation Science Rebuttals

    In this edition, the title to the article invokes an emotional response from the reader.  "The underlying issue: who are you going to believe-God or men?"  The first instinct of most readers is to immediately say we should believe God over man.  I agree with this instinct.  In all matters, when God has spoken, we should take God's Word as the ultimate authority.  However, there are some important ground rules for doing so, which the young earth author fails to mention. 

     The purpose of this Old Earth Ministries rebuttal is not to answer the questions raised by the feedback submitter, but rather address this emotional headline that Answers in Genesis chose.  In the summary for this article, Matthew D'Orazio and Bodie Hodge, the responders for AIG, say that evolution changes every year, thus what was thought to be fact a year ago is now false.  They say that we should rely on the Bible.  They tell the feedback submitter, "the underlying issue is whether you want to believe imperfect man's ideas about the past or believe a perfect God's Word."  

     We all agree, both young and old earth creationists, that God's Word is the final authority.  Yet, we reach the conclusion that the age of the earth is vastly different.  What is the difference?  Although God's Word is correct, it all depends on how you interpret God's Word.  In the end, whether you believe in a young earth, or an old earth, this is your interpretation...the interpretations of "imperfect man."  While the Word of God remains true, our interpretations, both old and young earth, may be wrong.

     Hodge and D'Orazio, in their claim that the earth is young, are expressing their interpretation of the Word of God.  They are not expressing the absolute truth of the Word of God.  Unless Hodge and D'Orazio are equal to God, they cannot know this absolute truth.  Hodge and D'Orazio are walking a very fine line between interpretation and blasphemy.

     In the end, it is not a matter of whether or not you believe God's Word...its a matter of how you interpret that Word.  We are free to argue our interpretations, but we are not free to insist that ours is the only right way to interpret the Word.
