The Spider and the Fly

     The 11 January 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses a relationship between a spider and a fly in Central America.

     The fly lives on the back of the spider.  When the spider captures an insect, the spider injects the victim with a substance to aid in preparing the insect for dinner.  When the insect is ready, the fly goes over to it, drinks for a few seconds, and then comes back to the spider's back. 

     I agree that this special relationship is wonderfully designed by our creator, and we should praise God for such a unique creation.  However, there is nothing that would imply that this design could not have been the result of God's guiding hand upon evolution.  Thus, this is no argument against evolution. 

     This type of argument (it's a beautifully designed creature...God must have designed it) is known as a "God of the Gaps" type argument.  Presenting such an emotional argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
