Spidery Liquid Crystals

     The 1 February 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the nature of spiders silk.

     The authors relate how scientists are trying to manufacture more durable fibers by using liquid crystals.  This process uses sulfuric acid, high temperatures, and high pressure.

     The authors relate how scientists have discovered that spiders do the same thing...making their silk from liquid, and as it dries, it gains its strength.  They mention that scientists would love to know how they do it, all at room temperature/pressure, and without sulfuric acid.

     This information is nice to know, but it has no value for the age of the earth debate, nor does it have anything to do with proving creation.

     As Christians we should thank God for the spider.   However, as is typical of Creation Moments claims, this argument boils down to an emotional one, or a "God of the Gaps" type argument.  Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
