The 9 February 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses stochastic resonance.
The authors state that in the early 1980s this feature was discovered. If a sound (or radio wave) is too weak to hear, add a little noise (static) and it becomes audible. Researchers are now using this information to design better radios.
The authors then relate that to a room full of people. In this room full of noise, you can listen to one particular voice, and ignore the rest. They say that humans have a built-in stochastic resonance. I call it...paying attention to the conversation of your choice. I can choose which person to listen to. Scientists may be claiming this for humans, but I see it as over-analyzing. It's common sense that you choose what to listen to. However, if they want to give it a fancy name, that's ok.
As Christians we should thank God for the ability to listen to who we want to. However, as is typical of Creation Moments claims, this is strictly a "God of the Gaps" type argument. Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
