The 24 February 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments had to do with the human eye. The authors give several claims about the human eye, all meant to show how they are wonderful for us. Vague claims are made, like this one..."During any 24-hour period our eyes will move about 100,000 times. That's equivalent to walking 50 miles every day!" Does that mean the eye burns enough energy for our legs to have walked 50 miles every day? A quick check revealed that walking 50 miles a day for my body size, at 3 miles per hour, I would burn 3,385 calories. Thus, this cannot be the caloric equivalent. What does this mean?
While I agree that the eye is a marvelous thing to have, and Christians can marvel and praise God for it, it has no impact for the age of the earth. As is typical of Creation Moments claims, this is strictly a "God of the Gaps" type argument. Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
