Babbling Fingers

     The 17 March 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the innocent babbling of babies.

     The author tells that babies babbling may be an imitation of their parents talking...they want to join in too!  The same is true of deaf infants...they start using their hands, just as their parents do.  This should come as no surprise to anyone.

     The Creation Moments author says researchers were shocked to realize that the brain has "some type of unified ability built into it for learning language."  He goes on to claim "This conclusion goes against everything evolution says about who and what humans are."   Why?  Evolution has no problem explaining this!  What is the basis for this claim?  Apparently, this is only a mud-slinging attempt at the evolutionist.  Problem is...there's no mud.  (It would be nice to have read the original report in Science News, however, as is typical of many Creation Moments claims, they use research which is many years old, and thus unavailable on the web.)

     I agree that our language learning ability is a tribute to our Creator.  As Christians we should thank God for the way He designed us to learn language.  However, this claim is typical of Creation Moments claims.  It is strictly a "God of the Gaps" type emotional argument (this is wonderful...God must have done it).  Presenting such an argument in defense of creation is a pointless exercise in futility...it will strengthen those who already believe, but will do nothing to argue for your position with the atheist or old earth creationist.
