The 11 April 06 daily feature for the young earth creation science ministry Creation Moments discusses the whether or not God could have created using the process of evolution.
The author says that
nearly half of all people in the United States believe that God created all
things, but that many of those believe that He used evolution to do it.
The author then says "Christians often adopt this idea because they are
unaware that there are thousands of scientists who believe God created the
entire universe supernaturally in six days." Young earth ministries
that employ scientists, and young earth colleges, account for only a
handful, perhaps 200 scientists. While there are other scientists who
believe in a young earth in the public workforce, it is highly doubtful that
they number in the thousands...perhaps 1,000 at best (see below for
explanation from a "geologist" perspective.
Contrary to the claims of the Creation Moments author, there are no good scientific reasons to accept a young earth, as can be evidenced by the arguments against their scientific works on this and other websites. Yes, the works of creationists has appeared in scientific journals, but I have not seen any works in secular publications that call into question the age of the earth. It is all done in their own "peer-reviewed" creationist journal, Technical Journal. This journal is not reviewed by scientists.
The author concludes by telling the pretty sight picture of these scientists conducting seminars, and then people saying "I didn't know there were so many well-educated scientists who were creationists!" Naturally, these are young earth seminars, conducted by young earth scientists, and commented on by young earth creationists. Let us see them present some valid study questioning the age of the earth at a secular scientific gathering. If they did so, then they would have something to brag about.
Interestingly, the Creation Moments author never really discusses any direct evidence to support the question that he asked in the title. In the final paragraph, he says "There are no 'facts" that demand that an educated person accept evolution as fact." I would agree with this...however, there are no facts that demand, from a Biblical perspective, that would prevent a person from believing that God created with evolution. You can believe in an inerrant Bible, a literal translation of Genesis, and evolution, if you choose to. The words of Billy Graham sum it up best (see link).
