On 17 April 2006 Creation Ministries International published an article addressing a recent evolutionary claim on Australian radio.1
The article by David Catchpoole mentioned a professor's claim that snakes reacting to the spread of cane toads across Australia show genuine evolutionary changes. In this article, I actually agree with Catchpoole. This is hardly evidence of evolution.
Normally, I would not write about an article that I agreed with. However, in this case, I think this article gives us some insight into the tone and attitude that Creation Ministries International may take after their split with Answers in Genesis earlier this year. In the final paragraph, Catchpoole lists in rapid fire succession several articles which purportedly show evolution to be false, and then he offers a DVD of a former evolutionist. He is definitely "talking down" to this poor scientist, who is clearly an idiot (from the young earth perspective). This section essentially amounts to a total disrespect for the scientist involved...a slam-dunk of him and his beliefs.
While it may be true that evolution is not fact, it is true that we are to seek out those who believe in evolution to convert them to Christ. In this case, by taking such a negative attitude, CMI has tipped their hat to their strategy for the future. Such words would alienate the scientist and drive them further from God. CMI's purpose is apparently to build up and strengthen their own believers, at the expense of someone that they consider lost to hell, and therefore they are "expendable." However, Jesus was not happy when one sheep strayed away from the ninety-nine (Matthew 18:12-14).
The young earth creationist who reads this article will perceive it differently. They will see nothing wrong with this article. However, if you put the on the shoes of the scientist that CMI is criticizing, it becomes a different matter.
As I have shown on this website, it is perfectly acceptable to believe in an inerrant, infallible Word of God, a literal translation of Genesis, and believe in long ages, with or without evolution. Instead of alienating evolutionists, we should be reaching them for Christ.
