Thirty-Year Secret is Evidence for Flood?

Some young earth creationists will not quit jumping to conclusions, even though the facts do not in any way support their claims. As case in point, the article "Thirty-Year Secret Leads to Evidence of Worldwide Flood," on the Creation Science Evangelism website, reviews the Waco, Texas mammoth find.

As the story goes, two guys were searching for fossils and arrowheads in 1978, and they discovered a bunch of bones sticking out of a creek bed. These bones belonged to Columbian mammoths, a camel, and a saber-tooth tiger. The unknown author goes on to state that for 30 years, it's been questioned what brought these animals together in this site. The author correctly states that scientists believe it was caught in a mudslide, probably caused by a local flood event. From this point on, the author says this is "evidence for God's Word and the Flood in the days of Noah." This "conclusion" is not supported by any facts, and is merely an assumption on the part of the young earth author.

We know that a flood did this, but to assume which flood did it is a great leap of the imagination (or on the part of the YEC author, wishful thinking). Even if the worldwide flood were true, these animals could have been killed in a flood many years after Noah's Flood. Unless the young earth author was there to witness the flood that buried these animals, he cannot claim to know which flood did it.

Fortunately, we have evidence that directly proves the flood of Noah did not kill these mammoths. As many of you know, we at Old Earth Ministries believe in a local Genesis flood. However, let's assume for a minute that the Flood of Noah was global. The sediments that the mammoths are found in are Pleistocene sediments dating to 68,000 years old. Underneath these sediments are most rock layers which young earth creationists claim were deposited by the flood. Texas has up to 18,000 feet of sedimentary layers. Somehow, the young earth creationist must explain how these animals survived thousands of feet of sediment being deposited, all by underwater mechanisms. These mammoths must be excellent swimmers to have survived this! So you see, even if there was a global flood, these mammoths were not killed by it.

Unfortunately, YEC's often jump to conclusions when it comes to flood evidence. Another trick is to make something appear to be a mystery to the dumb evolutionist or old earth believer, but of course, the smart young earth creationist has the answer! The title says a 30 year secret leads to flood evidence. The mammoth site is not, nor has it ever been, a secret. Since 1978 it has been thoroughly investigated, and a flood/mudslide event has been the answer to what caused the burial of these fossils. There is no secret at all concerning these mammoths.

Since young earth creationists don't have any real evidence, they often resort to cheap tricks such as these to prove their point. When you visit Old Earth Ministries, you can rest assured that we will tell you "the rest of the story."
