This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in August 2002. Morris states that it is common for evolutionists to claim that science and religion should be separate. I agree with Morris' statements on this issue. There does appear to be an anti-evolutionist stance taken by naturalistic evolutionists.
Although the Bible is not a book of science, it is accurate when it refers to science. Morris lists several scientific principles that appear in the Bible. Then, he equates each one to a supporting Christian doctrine, although some of these doctrinal attachments are a stretch (and they are not relevant to the question).
He goes on to claim that creation is a vital doctrine, showing that each species is a unique creation (non-evolution). I agree, but the Bible does not rule out evolution, and it even appears to support it.
Overall, this chapter shows that the answer to the question posed is no. Although he barely touches on his brand of creationism, it is apparent to me that old earth creationism is a much better fit with the Biblical scientific evidence (creation is old, and there is no geologic evidence of a global flood).

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
