Review by Greg Neyman

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in July 1990. The opening section of discussion for this question has nothing to do with the question itself. It consists of young earth rhetoric which has already been refuted hundreds of times. For instance, Morris claims that layers of rocks laid down by the flood would give evidence of rapid deposition. However, most layers are evidence of slow deposition, with small lenses, or features, that can be interpreted as rapid.
To answer this question, Morris claims that "there were pockets of fresh and/or clean water at any one time." If you look at the flood model proposed by his organization, the Institute for Creation Research, one can see that the waters of the flood were very turbulent, forming gyres over the continents, with velocities of water reaching 194 miles per hour.1 Based on this model, it would not be possible for there to be placid areas with stratification of water types.
Morris says that "modern fish have a great variety of responses to different environments." This means they can adapt to changing water conditions. While some do, many do not...many are very fragile when it comes to water conditions. For another discussion of this topic, click here.
Morris finishes by referring to the floating forest theory. While the Old Earth Ministries rebuttal for the floating forest theory dealt with its capability of forming the coal layers of the earth, you may find this review interesting.
