    This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in July 1991.  In this answer, Morris gives reasons why a Christian should not believe in evolution.  He says he can think of many reasons "why a Christian should be a Bible-believing creationist and not try to include any form of evolution in his thinking."  However, one can be a Bible-believing theistic evolutionist, believing in an inerrant Word, and a literal reading of the creation account. 

     The first reason he gives is that evolution is bad science.  That depends on who you listen too.  Many scientists believe in evolution and Christianity.  Young earth creation scientists call it bad, but that is a matter of opinion.  They have given many evidences against evolution, however, evolutionists have answers for these claims.

     Second, Morris says evolution has evil fruits.  He refers to racism, Marxism, imperialism, homosexuality, abortion, etc.  Unfortunately for Morris, concepts such as these were around in Biblical times during the Old Testament.  Racism is seen in the rampant slavery of the Old Testament, as is homosexuality.  These ills are not a product of evolutionary thought, because evolution was not formulated for several thousand more years.

     Third, he says one's self-concept is tied up in their view of origins.  He says it makes a big difference when you consider that you are created in the image of God.  However, theistic evolutionists can also say they were created in God's image.  Again, an empty point by Morris.

     Next, he says a person's entire worldview is at stake.  How we treat the earth, for example.  Again, a poor argument.  Christians, over the years, have been no better at conserving our environment than non-Christians.

     Morris then claims that evolution is bad Scripture.  He says belief in long ages requires a twisting of the Scripture.  Not true.  It actually fits better in many cases.  It is a different interpretation of the Scriptures, but the Scriptures are the same.

     Next, Morris says evolution is bad theology.  This argument hinges on the death before sin issue.  For more on this, see the Death Before Sin section, and see Dr. John's Q&A #145.

    Finally, Morris says that one's personal relationship to God is related to origins.  Not really.  It all depends on your relationship with Jesus Christ, not your beliefs about creation.  For more, see the Billy Graham link above.

     Morris has failed completely to discredit evolution.
