Dr. John's Q&A #72, December 1994

Does the Beak of the Finch prove Darwin was Right?

This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in December 1994.    In 1995 a book called The Beak of the Finch reported on the research of two scientists who studied evolution.  They spent 20 years studying the finches of an island in the Galapagos Islands.

The book makes the claim that evolution can happen fast, and it can be observed.  Morris disputes this claim on several grounds.  Without having read the book in question, I am not in a position to write a full review.  However, from what I have read of reviews on Amazon.com, and Morris' comments, I find myself agreeing with Morris.  Variation and adaptation do not necessarily demonstrate evolution.

However, this argument does not prove in any way that evolution is completely false.  While it is true that there are gaps in the evidence, enough evidence exists to indicate that it is a good possibility.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
