Creation Science Rebuttals

    This question was published in Dr. John's Q&A by John Morris in January 1996.  The height of young earth creationist superiority is seen in this answer.  Morris considers whether there are any counselors who base their counseling completely on his version of the Bible. 

     There are many Christian counseling programs, but Morris sadly dismisses them as missing the mark. His claims for these Christian counselors are:

 "based on humanism"

 "attach Bible verses or concepts to anti-biblical philosophies"

 "soft-peddling of sinful practices.

     It is clear from reading the tone of this answer that Morris obviously needs some counseling to deal with his anger against fellow Christians. 

     Morris claims that a failure to believe in the early chapters of Genesis ruins the ability of these counselors to provide helpful answers.  He poses questions such as a husband watching his wife die, or the parents of a little girl who was just killed by a drunk driver.  What would a Christian counselor, who went to a secular school, offer these people?  According to Morris, they have absolutely nothing to offer.  This is because they believe there was death before sin.

     From this point on, Morris turns this into a discussion of death before sin.  Since this issue is clearly shown to not be a problem for Christians, I won't repeat it here (you can read about Death Before Sin here). 

     If you faced a tough situation, would you trust Billy Graham to counsel you?  Sure you would.  However, he sees no problems for Christians to believe in evolution (see Billy Graham).  Or, how about C. S. Lewis, the author of the Narnia series, and one of the greatest theologians of the twentieth century?  He was a theistic evolutionist.  He saw no problems with a Christian believing in evolution.

     The truth of the matter is that your belief about death before sin makes no difference when it comes to salvation, nor when it comes to one's ability to provide useful counseling. 

     Put it this way.  You are going to die someday.  Do you need rescuing from that death?  Yes.  If you do not accept Jesus, you will be lost forever.  Does the fact that you believe in death before sin alter the fact that you will die someday?  No.  Does it alter the fact that you need a savior?  Not at all.  You will die, no matter what you believe...and you need a Savior, no matter what you believe.  Your beliefs about death before sin are irrelevant.

    Christians would be better off if they steered clear of Morris and his negative views.
