This article cautions creationists on using quotes (quote mining) from the secular literature.1 In that respect, it is interesting that they argue against a simple principle that they so commonly practice.2
It starts out with a paragraph on a debate between well-known creationist Dr. Duane Gish and a paleoanthropologist. While insignificant in light of the article, it merely serves up emotion to the reader that evolution can easily be defeated in a debate (something that does not always happen).
Personally, I do not believe in debates. It gives the young earth creationist a platform from which to preach their views. Since we obviously have an ancient earth, why give them a public forum to spread untruths (see Debates).
The author of this article states that "...evolutionary thinking on most of our 'ancestors' is in a state of flux and confusion at present." Two thoughts come to mind about this. First, we have come a long way from the 1970's, when this was published. There is no state of flux and confusion today. Second, by its very nature, science demands change. When new discoveries are made, old ideas are thrown out. This is science at its best, and its a wonderful system. Being in a state of flux is exactly what science is about.
I do agree with the conclusions of the last paragraph, however, as would most scientists. Don't trust scientific conclusions right at the time of the discovery of a scientific item. Wait until it has been analyzed, and then discuss it.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
