The article "Buried Birth" on the creation science website Answers in Genesis website gives the example of an extinct marine reptile, the Ichthyosaur, apparently fossilized while giving birth to a live infant.1
This article is used to prove that catastrophism is required (via Noah's Flood) to have buried this animal rapidly and preserve it in this state.
What does this article actually prove?
Congratulations, creation science has proven that catastrophic events occur. I, as a uniformitarianist, strongly believe in catastrophic events...there are evidences of catastrophes all throughout the millions of years old fossil-bearing sediments of the world.
The only way to know that this particular creature was killed by the catastrophe of Noah's Flood is to have been there...I didn't know that young-earth creationists were that old!
To find a catastrophic event in the geologic record, and then "assume" that it was Noah's Flood, only displays the level of assumptions the young-earth creationist is willing to resort to. It is amazing that they accuse geologists of making unfounded assumptions, when they themselves are guilty of making just as many assumptions. The difference is, geologists assumptions are based on science, and young earth assumptions are based on emotions and tradition.
A similar argument, though just as transparent, can be seen in "Fossil Jelly Fish in Australia," and "Frozen Feeding." Also, "The Yellowstone Petrified Forests Evidence of Catastrophe" may prove the trees were petrified by a catastrophe, but it doesn't prove that it was Noah's Flood. Of interest in this article, is his last section, in which he presents an example of a Christian that fell away from the faith as a result of his acceptance of the old earth. Rest assured, if you accept an old earth, you do not need to abandon your faith. Click on the link below for more.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
