Gigantism in the Fossil Record

In an article on the Creation, Dinosaurs and the Flood website, young earth creation science advocate Charlie Liebert mentions that the fossil record contains specimens that were considered gigantic when compared with their modern counterpart.1
He uses this to say that before the global flood, life was much larger. He makes no claim other than this. The insects involved were all extinct now. While nice to know, this has absolutely nothing to do with the creation debate. If the insects were larger before the Flood of Noah (whether you believe a local or a global flood), it makes no difference to how old the earth is, nor does it do anything to prove a young earth.
In writing this article, Liebert is providing evidence for one of his claims in his seminars. However, why he would make such a silly claim, and how it proves a young earth, is unknown.
