Old Earth Ministries Book Giveaway

This week's book giveaway is different. It's not for a creation science book, but for a fun little book from paleontologist Robert Bakker, entitled Raptor Red. It follows the life of a female Utahraptor.  Enter here via our Facebook page.  This drawing ends February 18th at 11:59 PM.

Science News of Interest to Creationists (Summaries from ScienceDaily.com and other sources)

Scientists estimate solar nebula's lifetime - Scientists have estimated the lifetime of the solar nebula -- a key stage during which much of the solar system evolution took shape. This new estimate suggests that the gas giants Jupiter and Saturn must have formed within the first 4 million years of the solar system's formation.

What drives universe's expansion? - Experiments with advanced technology could soon test an idea developed by Albert Einstein almost exactly a century ago, and settle a longstanding puzzle over what is driving the accelerated expansion of the universe.

Ancient signals from the early universe -  For the first time, theoretical physicists have calculated the signal of specific gravitational wave sources that emerged fractions of a second after the Big Bang. The source of the signal is a long-lost cosmological phenomenon called 'oscillon.'

Explosion in species diversity due to hybridization -  No less than 500 new species of cichlids, brightly coloured perch-like fish, evolved in Lake Victoria (East Africa) over the past 15,000 years -- a record in the animal and plant world. This evolutionary puzzle has now been solved by scientists. They demonstrate for the first time that this rapid evolution was facilitated by earlier hybridization between two distantly related cichlid species from the Upper Nile and Congo drainage systems.

Dwarf star 200 light years away contains life's building blocks - Many scientists believe the Earth was initially dry and that water, carbon and nitrogen -- the building blocks for life -- likely came as a result of collisions with objects that began their lives in the cold outer reaches of our solar system. Today, scientists report discovery of the existence of just such an object -- one that once orbited a neighboring star.

Deeper origin of gill evolution suggests 'active lifestyle' link in early vertebrates - Fish embryo study indicates that the last common ancestor of vertebrates was a complex animal complete with gills -- overturning prior scientific understanding and complementing recent fossil finds. The work places gill evolution concurrent with shift to self-propulsion in our earliest ancestors.

Ancient Earth as a model for studying hazy exoplanets -  For astronomers trying to understand which distant planets might have habitable conditions, the role of atmospheric haze has been hazy. To help sort it out, a team of researchers has been looking to Earth - specifically Earth during the Archean era, an epic 1-1/2-billion-year period early in our planet's history.

Breathing new life into 'Great Oxidation Event' -  Scientists are providing fresh insights into the 'Great Oxidation Event' (GOE), in which oxygen first appeared in the Earth's atmosphere more than 2.3 billion years ago.

First nuclear explosion helps test theory of moon's formation -  Radioactive glass found blanketing the ground after the first nuclear test bomb explosion is being used by scientists to test theories about the Moon's formation some 4.5 billion years ago.

New evidence in favor of dark matter: The bars in galaxies are spinning more slowly than we thought -  A new article show that bars in galaxies are rotating much more slowly than had been inferred by previous works.

What happened to the sun over 7,000 years ago? -  By analyzing the level of a carbon isotope in tree rings from a specimen of an ancient bristlecone pine, researchers have revealed that the sun exhibited a unique pattern of activity in 5480 BC. By comparing this event with other similar but more recent phenomena, they reported that this event may have involved a change in the sun's magnetic activity, or a number of successive solar burst emissions.

Genomes in flux: New study reveals hidden dynamics of bird and mammal DNA evolution -  Evolution is often thought of as a gradual remodeling of the genome, the genetic blueprints for building an organism. But in some instance it might be more appropriate to call it an overhaul. Over the past 100 million years, the human lineage has lost one-fifth of its DNA, while an even greater amount was added, report scientists. Until now, the extent to which our genome has expanded and contracted had been underappreciated.

Earth's hottest, most buoyant mantle plumes draw from a primordial reservoir older than the moon -  Only the hottest, most buoyant mantle plumes draw from a primordial reservoir deep in Earth, a geochemist has concluded.

Spiny, armored slug reveals ancestry of molluscs - A 480-million-year-old slug-like fossil has been uncovered in Morocco, shedding new light on the evolution of molluscs -- a diverse group of invertebrates that includes clams, snails and squids.

Did you know that you can be a Christian, and believe that the earth is billions of years old?  You can even believe in evolution and be a Christian.  There is no conflict between science and the Bible...all one needs is a proper understanding how to merge science and the Bible.  To learn more about old earth creationism, see Old Earth Belief, or check out the article Can You Be A Christian and Believe in an Old Earth?

Feel free to check out more of this website.  Our goal is to provide rebuttals to the bad science behind young earth creationism, and honor God by properly presenting His creation.
