Plausible Deniability

Why would the God of the Bible create hominid species prior to creating Adam and Eve?  This question has been a stumbling block for believers, and for non-Christian critics of the Bible.   A possible solution for this problem is the term commonly known as “plausible deniability.”

Normally, plausible deniability applies to any act which leaves little or no evidence of wrongdoing or abuse, or knowledge of a fact.  It is often used in reference to government organizations.  To protect a person at the top of the chain of command, their knowledge may be limited so that they cannot be blamed for an incident.

This can also be used to discuss God’s creation.  God created mankind with free will.  He did this for a very specific reason.  If God wanted to, he could have created mankind to worship Him, and forced them to do so.  But God did not want an army full of slaves.  God wanted people in heaven who would choose to worship Him.  Therefore, they must have the option not to worship Him.

In order to give people this option, God needed to have some form of plausible deniability.  Mankind had to have the ability not to attribute the creation of the world to a supreme being.  An old earth, with an alternative to believe in naturalistic evolution, gives mankind an option for plausible deniability of a creator.  Hominid species prior to Adam and Eve add to the plausible deniability of God as the creator, and they can only be reconciled with the Bible if you assume an old earth creation.

Young earth ministries spend countless hours (and money) trying to prove from science that the earth is young.  If they were successful scientifically, it would force everyone on earth to admit there was a creator who made the world.  People would be forced to believe, whether they wanted to or not.  There would be no more “free will” to believe in a creator.  This is the main reason that young earth ministries fail.  God, through His infinite wisdom, designed the world so that we could not prove His existence.  We cannot prove a global flood, we cannot prove the earth was created in six 24-hour days.  Thus, young earth creationism is a lost cause.

We can, however, prove that the earth is billions of years old, and that there was life on the earth for billions of years.  It can be reconciled with the Bible, and you can believe in God…if you choose to.  Belief in God requires faith, and the consistent story that appears throughout the books of the Bible, written over a span of thousands of years by many authors, lends credibility to the truthfulness of God’s Word.

People can also deny God, and believe we are the product of chance.  God will not force people to believe by providing them with proof of His existence.  It is your choice…choose wisely.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.  Click here for more.
