Creation Science in the Media
This section lists articles that appear in newspapers, magazines, online news sites, and in television. Some may be very negative towards Christianity.
‘Get your facts right’: Creationist Ken Ham flips out after paper claims no dinosaurs on Noah’s Ark - RawStory
Washington Post: Now there’s a theory that dinosaurs were wiped out in Noah’s flood
Ushering in the New Year with Dinosaur Meat and a Big Plate of Ken Ham!
Creationists Claim Beowulf Proves Humans and Dinosaurs Coexisted - Patheos

Sugar Beets--Farm Fresh Deicers - 2 January. AiG describes the fact that sugar beet juice is a natural deicer that can be used on roads to melt snow and ice, and they attribute its creation to God. No problem there, but from a standpoint of apologetics, that makes this a simple 'god of the gaps' claim.
Igniting a New Reformation - 3 January. Ken Ham makes this the theme for AiG in 2017, claiming that the church needs to teach more creationism, in order to 'reform' the church away from evolution and millions of years. Reformation is a good thing, but we need to continue the trend we now have...away from YEC, and towards millions of years. Ham's main concern is the dwindling numbers of YEC followers (and thus dwindling donations to AiG).
Some examples of previous annual themes for AiG...Taking Dinosaurs Back and Taking Astronomy Back...both utter failures in convincing anyone other than their own followers...who were already YEC to begin with.
One Small Step for DNA, One Giant Leap for Man’s Brain - 4 January, by Elizabeth Mitchell. She reports on a study about a change in a single nucleotide between humans and chimps may have given us the chance to grow a bigger brain. While she doesn't completely reject it, she claims that on Day 6 of creation, God put this difference in place, between the creation of chimps and man.
What A Dog's Nose Knows - 5 January, by Devon Spencer. Explains the dog's sense of smell, attributing its creation to God. As an old earth creationist, I agree. However, both YEC's, OEC's, and evolutionary creationists can also attribute this to God. In essence this is merely a 'god of the gaps' article.
Eastern Box Turtles-Frozen Alive! - 7 January, by Gordon Wilson. A simple 'god of the gaps' article. Christians who believe in an old earth can also thank God for the way He created animals.
Selective Hearing - 8 January, by Don DeYoung. Another article with no age of the earth implications.
Creation Ministries International
Designed to Adapt - 3 January. Discusses mutations. The author claims such changes allowed for new species since the Flood of Noah. The difference between YEC and old earth evolutionary beliefs is only a factor of time.
Evolution Abandoned - 4 January. Reprint from Creation Magazine, 2002. Tells the story of a former evolutionist, who fell under the teachings of YEC. If you are a Christian biologist, you can still be influenced by YEC teachings.
“Evolutionary creation”, round squares, and other nonsense - 5 January, by Lita Cosner. This is an attempted rebuttal to the possibility of God using evolution. Doesn't present a strong case. At one point she states "The difference is that creationists have evidence of how harmful evolution is to students’ faith." Just because people are taught YEC, and then they learn about evolution's plausability, and 'fall' from the faith, does not mean you can pin this 'fall' on evolution. If they had not been taught YEC, and were open to evolution from the beginning, then their faith would not be harmed if evolution is true. When you train youth that they MUST accept YEC or be lost, you are setting them up for failure.
A challenge to traditional cultural anthropology - 6 January. This is a reprint of a Technical Journal article from 1999. A simple interesting article that doesn't present any problems for old earth believers. The example cited does not appear to present any kind of challenge to anthropology.
The Scientific Case Against Evolution - 7 January. This is a response by CMI to some feedback received through their website. The author attempts to tell the YEC questioner how evolution can be argued against.
Institute for Creation Research
Brain-Computer Interface Unmasks Mind-Brain Relationship - 5 January, by Randy Guliuzza. Explains a new medical device that helps people with loss of neurologic muscle control. Contains a single paragraph that takes a swipe at evolutionism.
Naturalistic evolutionists declare that the mind is a product of the brain because they believe that everything, even information and the human mind, must be reduced to matter. But this case indicates that the brain responds to the mind as a separate entity.

Role of supernovae in clocking the universe New research by cosmologists confirms the accuracy of Type Ia supernovae in measuring the pace at which the universe expands. The findings support a widely held theory that the expansion of the universe is accelerating and such acceleration is attributable to dark energy. The findings counter recent headlines that Type Ia supernova cannot be relied upon to measure the expansion of the universe.
South American fossil tomatillos show nightshades evolved earlier than thought Delicate fossil remains of tomatillos found in Patagonia, Argentina, show that this branch of the economically important family that also includes potatoes, peppers, tobacco, petunias and tomatoes existed 52 million years ago, long before the dates previously ascribed to these species, according to an international team of scientists.
Humans occupied Tibetan Plateau thousands of years earlier than previously thought Early Tibetan Plateau settlers managed to survive at high elevation at least 7,400 years ago, before the development of an agricultural economy between 5,200-3,600 years ago.
280 million-year-old fossil reveals origins of chimaeroid fishes High-definition CT scans of the fossilized skull of a 280 million-year-old fish reveal the origin of chimaeras, a group of cartilaginous fish related to sharks. Analysis of the brain case of Dwykaselachus oosthuizeni, a shark-like fossil from South Africa, shows telltale structures of the brain, major cranial nerves, nostrils and inner ear belonging to modern-day chimaeras.
First look at new, extremely rare galaxy Approximately 359 million light-years from Earth, there is a galaxy with an innocuous name (PGC 1000714) that doesn't look quite like anything astronomers have observed before. New research provides a first description of a well-defined elliptical-like core surrounded by two circular rings -- a galaxy that appears to belong to a class of rarely observed, Hoag-type galaxies.
Hidden secrets of Orion's clouds This spectacular new image is one of the largest near-infrared high-resolution mosaics of the Orion A molecular cloud, the nearest known massive star factory, lying about 1350 light-years from Earth. It reveals many young stars and other objects normally buried deep inside the dusty clouds.
Evolution of brain and tooth size were not linked in humans A new study found that whereas brain size evolved at different rates for different species, especially during the evolution of Homo, the genus that includes humans, chewing teeth tended to evolve at more similar rates. The finding suggests that our brains and teeth did not evolve in lock step and were likely influenced by different ecological and behavioral factors.
Did you know that you can be a Christian,
and believe that the earth is billions of years old? You can even
believe in evolution and be a Christian. There is no conflict
between science and the Bible...all one needs is a proper
understanding how to merge science and the Bible. To learn more
