Argument:
Belief in a creation account that is millions of years long is a denial of the inerrancy of the Bible
Source: Numerous sources
Response:
Old earth creationism comes in many shapes and sizes. There are those who accept inerrancy, and there are those who do not. This argument is only valid against those who do not
The basic argument is that key teachings, such as a "day" not equaling a 24-hour day, and Noah's Flood not being global, are denied by old earth creationists. If we don't believe these, then we don't take the Bible literally, and its inerrancy is violated
Yom: It is no reason in the Hebrew that the word for day, "yom," cannot be interpreted as millions of years long. This interpretation has nothing to do with the inerrancy of the Scriptures. It only deals with the translation of a single word
The Flood: Noah's flood was universal in effect, but local in size. This presents no problems with a literal, inerrant translation of the Genesis story
Many committed Christians believe in an inerrant Bible, and an old earth
