The inerrancy of the Scriptures is something that we occasionally get questions about. Normally we don't post topics on non-creation related subjects, but in this case, it may be appropriate to delve further into this subject for the benefit of our readers.
We understand that not all old earth creationists (nor all young earth creation science believers, for that matter) believe the Scriptures to be inerrant. You are free to believe what you want. While you can still theoretically be a Christian and not accept inerrancy, we believe you are much better off if you do.
If you do not accept the Scriptures as inerrant, you are opening up a whole can of worms. You can pick and choose what you wish to believe, and discard the rest. Such a position makes no sense, when the Scriptures are proven to be scientifically reliable and archaeologically accurate in every respect. True, we don't have archaeological evidence for every single event in the Bible, but each year brings new discoveries that brings us closer to this reality. And, even non-Christian's accept it as truth. Non-Christian archaeologists in the Middle East have been known to carry Bibles. When asked why, they say it is to confirm their findings!
For a discussion on inerrancy, I offer the following link which contains a brief study of this topic. The article is titled The Inspiration, Inerrancy, and Authority of the Bible, and it is written by Ron Rhodes of Reasoning From the Scriptures Ministries.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
