This article by Dr. I. Scott discusses how scientific revolutions, proposed in the book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn, applies to the theory of evolution. Overall, it is a well-written, accurate article, and for the most part there are no problems with it.
However, the author claims that the end result of the advent of Darwin's paradigm is that many people rejected the Biblical account of creation. While I agree that some did, as a whole, this mass exodus from the church did not occur. Many of the early scientists of the 1800's were converted to evolution, but they maintained their Christianity. As evidence, today we have millions of Theistic Evolutionists.
The problem with evolution is not evolution itself, but man's reaction to evolution...specifically, the church's reaction. If it is seen as an
either-or choice, which is the way young earth creation science views it, then when faced with choosing between science and the Bible, many choose science, and abandon the Bible. If instead, they had been taught that you can accept evolution and the Bible, the conflict disappears.
True, the results of evolution has meant that many more today are atheists, but a large part of the blame for this lies with the church, and not with the theory of evolution.

If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
