The purpose of this series of articles is to show that the creation account in Genesis has scientific value, and scientists can learn lessons from it that apply to the scientific world.
Getting back to an item I did not address in the first one, the author (J. Mackay) says that science cannot deal with events which happen once. Actually, that depends on the event. An event can leave unmistakable evidence of its occurring. The Big Bang is the obvious event...scientists still see evidence of it today, 13.7 billion years after the fact. In fact, the evidence for it is getting stronger every day. So yes, science can deal with events that happen only once. The same applies to his fourth point, that science cannot deal with something that is not repeatable. Although the Big Bang is not repeatable, the evidence for it is still out there to be examined, and we can "test" that evidence, and in doing so we are testing the Big Bang. The fact that it is not repeatable has not harmed it in any way.
I'm not saying this is the case in every situation. In many cases, the limitations listed are important...but they do not apply in every case.
Next, the author examines the bias that is in society in relation to science. He breaks it down into those who are atheists, agnostics, deists, and revelationists. There are no problems here. We will wait until Part Three to see how these are developed further.
