In the late 1990s, two geologists published work that told of a flood that they discovered in the Black Sea (see book at right). The evidence is compelling, and they loosely relate it to the Flood of Noah. However, like Morris, I do not believe that this local event is the correct one.
Interestingly, Morris says that the muds that represent this flood on the floor of the Black Sea, are deposited over the flood layers of the true flood, the global flood of Noah. This Black Sea flood was dated to be about 7,600 years ago, which outdates Morris' global flood by about 3,300 years! I'm certain that Morris would dispute the 7,600 year data, but it looks good to me.
The only other critique I have here is then Morris says "In the creationist model, ....." The young earth creationist model is not "the creationist model." There are several, including the old earth creationist models. Progressive creationism, and theistic evolution, are also creationist models, models that deny what Morris is trying to prove. Morris is unwittingly making an unfounded assumption that his is the only creationist model.
If you are not a Christian, and you have been holding out on making a decision for Christ because the Church always preached a message that was contrary to what you saw in the scientific world, then rest assured that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, and you can believe in Christ and receive salvation, while still believing in an old earth.
