In this article, Morris is referring to a recent study (this book was published in 2003) about a report of dinosaurs which may have hunted in packs. He urges caution, and does not really rule out this possibility. However, he correctly shows that just because dinosaur bones are found together, it does not mean that they hunted together.
There is other evidence to suggest this may have been the case, however. For instance, Dr. Bob Bakker, the famous paleontologist (and Pentecostal preacher) discovered a feeding site where t-rex teeth were discovered. The way that t-rex was designed, teeth were a renewable resource, and they could fall out during feeding. This site not only had adult and juvenile teeth, the bones of the victim also had bite marks corresponding to the various teeth sizes. This "family" feeding shows that they ate together (of course, the alpha male probably ate first!). Even this, though, is not foolproof, it is merely a possibility.
A report on a study in April 2006, on CNN, indicates that the meat-eating dinosaur Mapusaurus roseae, found in Argentina, hunted in packs. However, all it says is that the bones were found together, therefore this conclusion is not conclusive, unless we viewed the study in more detail. In fact, given the date of this find (2000), it may have been the study that Morris is referring to. (The report on CNN (no longer available) gives no indications why they were reporting on this find).
Of course, when you think of dinosaurs hunting in packs, you must think about Hollywood, and the Jurassic Park movies, which shows the raptors hunting in packs. Although there is no way to know that this is accurate, it is a definite possibility. For example, some of the best hunters of our time, the lions, hunt in packs. Dogs will sometimes hunt in packs. Dinosaurs were probably capable of hunting in packs.
