Morris discusses this find, consisting of two sets of remains, which have both been assigned to the same species. When it comes to fossil hominids from 4 million years ago, the fossil evidence is very sketchy. I prefer to err on the side of caution. I agree with Morris that there is not enough evidence here to support any conclusions.
Morris talks about how these two sets of fossils were found at different stratigraphic layers, 55 feet apart vertically. The dates of these layers are between 4.1 and 3.5 million years. There is no indication that they were the same species, although they may have been.
Given the lack of fossil evidence, conclusions are premature on this issue. Although I admit that theistic evolution may have occurred (although I personally do not believe it), Christians are more than welcome to believe in evolution. The lack of fossil evidence is only a problem, but not one that cannot be overcome with the discovery of more complete specimens.
